What you need to know

  • Halo hasn't had a huge presence on PC since the initial release of the first game, Combat Evolved.
  • The franchise is making a triumphant return with Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which started on Xbox.
  • 343 Industries is releasing one Halo game at a time on PC, starting with Reach and now Combat Evolved.
  • With Halo: Combat Evolved now out, Halo: MCC has spiked to the top of Steam's top sellers list.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a must-have for any Halo fan, now featuring up to six Halo games in all their remastered glory on Xbox One consoles. However, the incredible collection is now making its way onto PC, and it's clear that gamers are rejoicing at its arrival. After Halo: Combat Evolved made its return to PC after a nearly two decade absence, the Master Chief Collection has soared to the top of Steam's best selling games list worldwide. The game is even beating out pre-orders for the much-awaited sequal to Doom 2016, Doom Eternal.

This is a notable accomplishment, since the Master Chief Collection on PC currently only features two of the six Halo games present on Xbox One. This shows that their is a ton of interest in the Halo franchise amongst PC gamers, and comes just a few months after it topped Steam's charts during its intial launch with Halo: Reach. Based on this, it's easy to speculate how the collection will perform with each successive Halo title that launches on PC. And with Halo Infinite also coming to PC on day one, it's clear that 343 Industries is holding nothing back. Halo is once again a household name for PC gamers.

Halo: Combat Evolved on PC is an impressive, if gently flawed port that shows how much potential Halo has with the flexibility and power afford by gaming PC's. While it launched with some bugs, 343 Industries has already released a huge patch for both Xbox One and PC that focuses almost entirely on improving the experience for players. With this kind of dedication, the future is very bright for Halo.
