What you need to know

  • The Initiative is a new studio from Microsoft.
  • It's working on possibly a "AAAA" game.
  • According to a developer's LinkedIn post, the game features "weapons, gadgets, and a camera surveillance system."
  • The title will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.

The Initiative is a new studio Microsoft formed in Santa Monica, California, to produce "AAAA" games. The team wants to produce Microsoft Exclusive on the level of God of War. While we don't know what the team is working on currently, do have some idea what some of the mechanics will be.

Today, Twitter's "Klobrille" noticed that on LinkedIn, a developer revealed that The Initiative's upcoming, unannounced game runs on Unreal Engine 4 and features "various weapons, gadgets, and a camera surveillance system." While weapons and gadgets are common in many games, the camera surveillance system sounds intriguing. In many ways, it reminds me of Watch Dogs, but since that franchise belongs to Ubisoft, it seems like either a new franchise or maybe a Perfect Dark reboot. Only time will tell.

What do you want to see from The Initiative's project? Let us know. The team is made up of many of the best developers in the industry and I hope they can deliver.

Whatever The Initiative is working on, it'll be available at launch on Xbox Game Pass. Xbox Game Pass is a monthly subscription service that gives you access to over 200 games for $10 a month on Xbox One. However, if you're an Xbox Live Gold subscriber, you can bundle Xbox Game Pass for Xbox One, Xbox Game Pass for PC, and Xbox Live Gold together for $15 a month with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
