What you need to know

  • HP launched its latest Pavilion laptop series today.
  • Available in a rainbow of colors, the new Pavilions are also HP's first consumer laptops to use ocean-bound plastics.
  • In another first, HP says these are its first laptops to feature 11th Gen Intel Core CPUs with Intel Iris Xe graphics.
  • The laptops are expected to launch in October starting at $580.

HP today took the wraps off of its latest Pavilion laptop refresh, debuting three updated lines of PCs. Available in 13-, 14-, and 15-inch sizes, the new range is both colorful and more premium than before. It also remains affordable, adopting a design and build closer to Envy lines of previous years while keeping costs down.

The most striking thing about the new Pavilion 13, 14, and 15 lines is that they now feature several color-blocked variants across the line. HP says that, in choosing the color schemes, it went with pairs that complement one another for a more "elegant" look. The result is a set of gold, blue, green, pink, and silver hued shells that feature a keyboard base with a different, but complementary color.

Inside the laptops, you'll find Intel's latest 11th Gen Core processors with Intel Iris Xe graphics. There are also options for AMD Ryzen 4000 Series processors on the Pavilion 15. If you need a little more graphical oomph, the Pavilion 14 and Pavilion 15 also include the option for NVIDIA GeForce MX450 discrete graphics.

As you'd expect with new PCs launching in 2020, there's also Wi-Fi 6 here, instant wake with Modern Standby, and a USB-C port with data, display, and power delivery support. PCIe SSDs are standard up to 1TB across the lineup, and there's also an HDMI 2.0 port that can power an external 5K monitor. Battery life is rated at up to 8.5 hours on the Pavilion 13, and up to 8.75 hours on the Pavilion 14 and 15, according to HP's estimates.

If you've used previous Pavilion laptops, you'll also notice HP has reduced the bezel size on this year's models. The 2020 series brings mico-edge bezels to three sides of the display, while also replacing the speakers above the keyboard with side speakers. A fingerprint sensor is available as an extra security option as well.

These are also HP's first consumer laptops to use ocean-bound plastics in their construction. Sustainability remains a focus for HP, and using recycled, ocean-bound plastics in its products is a big part of that.

The HP Pavilion 13, 14, and 15 are expected to be available in October priced at $680, $580, and $600, respectively.
