Ubisoft reveals release dates for future Assassin's Creed Origins story expansions

In a press release, Ubisoft announced that The Hidden Ones, an expansion for Assassin's Creed Origins, will launch on January 23, 2018 for all platforms. The publisher also revealed release dates for other post-launch content. The Hidden Ones is Assassin's Creed Origins' first story expansion which focuses on the Roman occupation. Bayek and his Assassins will clash with the force in an all-new region of the game called Sinai. The base experience deals with topics like preserving the Ancient Egyptian way of life in a changing world, so expect The Hidden Ones to touch upon similar themes.

Many months ago Ubisoft teased gamers with a new free feature called Discovery Tour by Assassin's Creed: Ancient Egypt. This new educational mode lets everyone, from players to history-enthusiasts and non-gamers, choose between free roaming the beautiful world of Ancient Egypt to learn more about its history and daily life, or embarking on guided tours curated by historians and Egyptologists. Note that this will disable the storyline and quests because you can explore the world free of conflict, time limits, or gameplay constraints. Discovery Tour is expected to be available to on February 20.

Another expansion, The Curse of the Pharaohs, will launch soon after the Discovery Tour is available to players. The second expansion offers gamers a completely new quest to delve into as they travel to Thebes to investigate an ancient curse that is plaguing the land. The Curse of the Pharaohs focuses on Egyptian mythology, pitting players against famous pharaohs and Egyptian beasts, as they uncover the cause of the curse that has brought certain dead rulers back to life. Each expansion increases the level cap and this one is no different. The Hidden Ones first raises the cap to 45 while The Curse of the Pharaohs increases it to 55. This means that you can keep on leveling up and finding better gear. Ubisoft says that the second expansion will launch on March 6.

While the two expansions are locked behind a season pass, a lot of free content like the Discovery Tour is also coming to Assassin's Creed Origins. A new free quest, called Incoming Threat, is a prelude to The Hidden Ones. In it players must prevent an incoming incursion and find where it's coming from. While it's not expansive content, it's still a nifty mission. Hopefully Ubisoft will continue supporting the game like this for many months to come. The title is a fresh start for the series in many ways because it adds proper role-playing mechanics to the franchise.

Assassin's Creed Origins takes place in Ancient Egypt, a land of majesty and intrigue, but one which is disappearing in a ruthless fight for power. According to Ubisoft, you play as a Bayek, the first Assassin, who must unveil dark secrets and forgotten myths as you go back to the one founding moment: the origins of the Assassin's Brotherhood.

Assassin's Creed Origins launched on October 27, 2017 on Xbox One, Windows PC, and PlayStation 4. Be sure to check it out at retailers if you like third-person adventures. The game supports 4K resolution on Xbox One X and looks incredible due to its upgraded textures.
