Fortnite unveils Minecraft-like creative mode

Fortnite is a free-to-play third-person shooter with building mechanics. The title has become a cultural sensation due to its unique blend of expressive gameplay. Back in February 2018, Epic Games stated that the title was played by roughly 3.4 million gamers concurrently. Since then, that figure has ballooned to 8.3 million. Considering that there are so many players, the revenue generated from people buying the campaign and microtransactions is significant to say the least. In order to keep players coming back for more, the developer needs to add new features.

Today, Epic Games has announced a brand new way to experience the game called "Fortnite Creative." The update should launch on December 6, 2018 with Season 7. According to Epic Games, Fortnite Creative lets players design games, battle friends in more ways, and build the game of their dreams. For those wondering, it all takes place on your own private island where everything you make it saved. This sounds a lot like Minecraft to be honest.

Not everyone will get access to a private island though. Only Season 7 Battle Pass owners will have access to their own island for the first week of the new season. During this "early access" week, Battle Pass owners can invite their friends to play on their island. If you don't own the Battle Pass, you'll get the island for free on December 13.

It's great to see that Epic Games is supporting Fortnite to this degree. This seems to be the new trend in the gaming industry.
