The major DLC pack for Sea of Thieves now has a release date: July 31. Initially teased at E3 2018, the update, called Cursed Sails, will bring even more skeletal threats to the raging seas – and it will be free for everyone.

The biggest highlights of Cursed Sails involves new skeleton ships to battle, along with the introduction of a new three-player ship known as the Brigantine. And while these will be permanent additions to the world, Cursed Sails has something special in store for those who are playing along at launch: a special three-week campaign.

The campaign will see a swarm of skeleton ships attacking players at sea and outposts alike. In addition, there will be a story-driven side quest that sets players on a journey to track down the source of the skeletal threat. Throughout the event, players will get access to "a range of unique rewards," but we'll have to wait to see just what that entails. Developer Rare has teased a bit of what's to come with a new trailer, seen below.

Starting on July 31, the Cursed Sails update will be available for free to anyone who owns Sea of Thieves, including those playing through Xbox Game Pass. If you want to get in on the action, Sea of Thieves is available now for $59.99 at the Microsoft Store (or, currently, $29.99 at Amazon, or by subscribing to Xbox Game Pass at $9.99 per month.
