Xbox and PC fable 'Biomutant' shows off deadly mechs in new trailer

Biomutant is an upcoming open world, post-apocalyptic, kung-fu fable. It features anthropomorphic animals in a desperate struggle for survival in a hostile land. Developer Experiment 101 is currently working on the game for Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4, but we don't have a concrete release date yet. The title is scheduled to launch in 2018, but aside from that, we don't know much about the project.

The game was one of the biggest surprises to come out of Gamescom 2017 due to its visuals and gameplay. It seems as though you can alter your appearance and skills if you're exposed to a particular mutagen. For example, the fox-like protagonist's hand turns into one resembling a salamander's after he touches a mysterious substance.

Today, publisher THQ Nordic released a new trailer for the title which showcases the variety of gameplay found in Biomutant. Aside from using your sword and engaging in basic combat, you can grapple up ledges and use strange contraptions like a hand vehicle to take out enemies. What's most surprising is that combat seems to revolve around combos. For example, you may remember that Bayonetta requires players to use their sword and guns together to take out enemies. Biomutant appears to follow a similar approach which should give gamers a challenge.

Previous trailers haven't showcased Biomutant well but this one changes the game. If the developer is able to live up to its promises, this game might be one of the biggest surprises of 2018. There's Zelda-like climbing, InnerSpace-like gliding, Titanfall-like mechs, and much more!
