What you need to know

  • Assassin's Creed Valhalla takes place in England and Norway during the Dark Ages.
  • Ubisoft released its story trailer ahead of the game's release, introducing the Templar threat.
  • Valhalla is set to release alongside the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on November 10.

Like every Assassin's Creed game before it, Assassin's Creed Valhalla follows the age old Assassin vs Templar conflict, this time in 9th century England and Norway. Valhalla is shaping up to be quite the adventure that we can't wait to get our hands on in just over a month.

As a Viking raider forced to flee their home after endless war, you'll come to find England far from inviting. Ubisoft's latest story trailer for Valhalla paints a bloody picture — but one that also humanizes the Vikings in ways mainstream media doesn't always see.

The trailer doesn't show off anything surprising, but we do get a good look at the Assassins we'll meet up with. Near the end of the trailer, one such Assassin tells Eivor that there's more to the land than the search for a home. An unseen, unknowable darkness that's tied to England's destiny is present, and it's clear he's referring to the Templars (even if they aren't known formally as Templars at this point in the series' lore).

Assassin's Creed Valhalla releases on November 10 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PS4, and PC. It is coming to PS5 on November 12 when that console launches. Valhalla will support Smart Delivery and run at 4K 60FPS on Xbox Series X.
