Sea of Thieves is an exploration-based pirate game which launched on March 20, 2018. Rare is known for many famous franchises including Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, and GoldenEye. However, in recent years, the team focused on developing Kinect games for Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Last week, Rare said that it had encountered some unexpected issues with an early build of the free Sea of Thieves: Forsaken Shores expansion. As a result of this, the expansion may need to be delayed. Unfortunately, this weekend's testing didn't go well and the studio has pushed the content back to September 27, 2018. Rare said the following in a post on its website today.

We can confirm that the release date for Forsaken Shores will now be Thursday September 27 rather than Wednesday September 19. This was not a decision that was taken lightly, and we know this may disappoint fans who were looking to play the update this week. That said, our priority is to deliver a stable, polished, and bug-free experience and we feel that the extra week of development will enable us to do this.

Hopefully this delay will result in a bug-free experience. The last few patches have introduced a number of problems so the developer needs to take the time to make sure new content works well.

Aside from the new volcanic area, the biggest addition has to be the rowboat. In order to survive the toxic waters, you have to use the vessel to avoid being boiled alive. The shores can't support life due to the extreme heat. Once you find a rowboat, it can be docked to a larger ship.

Sea of Thieves is currently available for $59.99 through various retailers, but it's free for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.
