Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris expansion adds Raid Lairs and other challenges

The Curse of Osiris offers players mystery, adventure, new activities, gear, and destinations to explore. Many gamers might remember references to Osiris in the first game. However, this time we can interact with the legendary Guardian directly and find out more about his backstory.

The expansion follows the robotic Vex who have a mysterious master plan. According to the developers, the story is set a few months after main campaign. The reawakening of The Traveler has repercussions as a wave of Light spreads across the solar system. This activates a Vex gateway where they're assembling a substantial force. What happens next is up to you.

Some of the new characters include Osiris, supposedly the greatest Warlock who ever lived; Sagira, the first female ghost; and Brother Vance, a religious leader of sorts who's eager to herald the return of Osiris. Osiris and Sagira seem like great additions to the game. Hopefully they'll be on the level of Asher Mir and Failsafe.

Aside from the surface of Mercury, players get to explore a new region called The Infinite Forest on the planet. The surface is a standard area which contains lost sectors, chests, and public events. The Infinite Forest is a network of machines located within the core of Mercury. Certain pillars allow players to travel to different times, including the past and future. The Vex are using the pillars to simulate potential realities and choose the best path that eliminates all life from the universe.

There's a new social space called the Lighthouse as well. You can interact with other Guardians and find Fireteam members. There should be merchants and other individuals available too. This is necessary because the player level will be raised to 25. You'll need to acquire new gear and to stay competitive. The Light level will also be raised to 335 so get ready for the grind.

However, that's not the biggest change. The Curse of Osiris expansion introduces the Raid Lair, a brand new activity that takes place on the Leviathan. For those of you who have completed the raid in Destiny 2, The Leviathan is the Cabal Emperor's ship. It's a massive vessel capable of swallowing entire planets. The Raid Lair offers new areas to explore, new encounters, better rewards, and a brand new boss to take on.

Luckily Raid Lairs don't take as long to complete but they're still challenging. Not everyone can sit down with a Fireteam for hours to get through the regular Raid, it's just not possible given time constraints. It's great to see Bungie offering gamers an alternative.

Destiny 2 is available now on the Microsoft Store and other retailers for $59.99. The game will be enhanced for Xbox One X on December 5, 2017, when the Curse of Osiris expansion launches.
