Razer's newest Thresher headset is $100 cheaper and adds Xbox Wireless tech

Razer's Thresher Ultimate headset was already one of our favorite gaming headsets, but at $249, it comes with a pretty substantial price tag. Now, Razer is alleviating that pain point with the Razer Thresher for Xbox One, which cuts the price tag by $100 and packs in a little something extra: Xbox Wireless tech.

With Xbox Wireless connectivity, the Thresher for Xbox One can wirelessly connect to your console over the same protocol that your Xbox One controller uses. That allows Razer to ditch the chunky base station that comes with the Thresher Ultimate and cut the price by $100 at the same time.

Aside from adding Xbox Wireless, the Thresher for Xbox One comes with the same styling and set of features as its more expensive sibling. That includes Windows Sonic support for surround sound, 50mm drivers in each ear cup, and a wireless range of up to 40 feet. Battery life is estimated at up to 16 hours, and you can top back up with a total charging time of around 4 hours. Game and chat balance controls can be found on the headset itself, as well as a retractable boom mic.

If wireless isn't really your thing, a third headset is also joining the lineup with the Thresher Tournament Edition. The design remains the same, but the Tournament Edition connects to a 3.5mm headphone jack and cuts the price to $99.

Both new Thresher headsets are set to be available immediately from Razer (though they're out of stock at the time of this writing), and worldwide in Q4. The Thresher for Xbox One is also available for preorder at Amazon, but units aren't set to ship until the end of October.
