What you need to know

  • Gears Tactics is an upcoming XCOM-like tactical game from The Coalition.
  • The Coalition is Microsoft's studio dedicated to the Gears of War franchise.
  • Today, Studio Head Rod Fergusson confirmed it'll come to Xbox.
  • Gears Tactics will be part of Xbox Game Pass which you can buy through Amazon.

Gears Tactics is an upcoming top-down tactical game along the lines of XCOM. It was announced as a Windows 10 exclusive, but there were rumors floating around that it was coming to Xbox, too. Razer accidentally added the game to the list of titles that support Xbox One mouse and keyboard input on its website, and since then, the rumors have been out of control.

However, today we got a definitive answer from The Coalition's Rod Fergusson. Replying to a comment by a fan asking if Gears Tactics was ever coming to Xbox, Fergusson simply added, "yes." There you have it. It's definitely coming to a Microsoft console as well. However, it's unclear if this console is the Xbox One or Project Scarlett.

Keep in mind that it's unclear if the game will launch on Xbox the same day it launches on PC. We have to wait a few months because the game needs controller support if it's coming to be on the system. Since it's like XCOM, that may take a few months to code.

Just like every Microsoft Exclusive, Gears Tactics will be included with Xbox Game Pass. Xbox Game Pass is a monthly subscription service which gives you access to over 200 games for $10 a month on Xbox One. However, if you're an Xbox Live Gold subscriber, you can bundle Xbox Game Pass for Xbox One, Xbox Game Pass for PC, and Xbox Live Gold together for $15 a month.
