What you need to know

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the latest entry in the massive first-person shooter franchise.
  • Today, it looks like many players are being affected by a new bug in the game's multiplayer mode.
  • The bug causes the game to not track the players' stats or progress at all.

Updated March 10, 2020: Infinity Ward has officially confirmed that the issue has been fully resolved on their end. All players should be able to track their progress and missions again. However, it doesn't appear that lost progress is being restored, and as of now Infinity Ward hasn't announced any intention to try and make up for the error. The firm is focusing on the imminent launch of Warzone, their new battle royale game mode, which comes out later today.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been a colossal success so far, judging by its initial record sales weekend in 2019, and sees millions of daily players jumping in. Lately, it seems that those players can't progress or move forward in the game anymore. A new multiplayer bug affecting the blockbuster title is causing all progression to not be tracked, meaning players can't complete missions, gain XP in matches, rank up in the Battle Pass to unlock new content, or even work on improving their game stats. Infinity Ward, the developer behind the game, has acknowledged on Twitter that they are now aware of the issue.

The bug has been going on since at least this afternoon, and Infinity Ward is still investigating potential fixes. Hopefully players who are still in the game will be able to retrieve all their lost progress, since the biggest appeal of Call of Duty's infamous multiplayer mode is the nearly endless number of ways players can track their achievements and history in the game. We'll update this article as soon as we have more information, but there doesn't appear to be any real solution for this. If you're worried about losing progress, it might be best to stay off the game for a few hours while Infinity Ward finds a fix.
