Space shooter 'Everspace' should get Xbox One X upgrade next week [updated]

According to developer Rockfish Games, Everspace is getting an Xbox One X upgrade on March 16, 2018. However, what changes does the patch bring to the table? Luckily, an interview between the studio and WCCFtech revealed the answer.

When asked about Everspace running on an Xbox One X compared to the PlayStation 4 Pro (PS4 Pro), head of Rockfish Michael Schade provided more details. The game runs at native 4K 30 FPS on Xbox One X and checkerboarded 4K 30 FPS on PS4 Pro. However, the title also features a 60 FPS mode on both consoles, but the Xbox One X version features higher quality scenes even at 1080p. The Xbox One X should have the clearest picture as checkerboard rendering introduces numerous artifacts which detract from image quality.

On console, Everspace has never looked better and played more smoothly than on the Xbox One X, hands down... to make the most out of its power when running Everspace on Xbox One X in 4K... On a full HD screen, it runs with 60 FPS in native 1080p... with an improved level of detail distance settings as well as better shadow, shader, lighting, and visual effects quality.

Everspace is an action-focused single-player space shooter, combining roguelike elements with "AAA" visuals and an intriguing story. It takes you on a challenging journey through an ever-changing universe full of surprises. Your skills, experience and talent for improvisation will be tested continuously as you piece together the puzzle of your existence through encounters with interesting characters, each having their own unique part to tell. Death is inevitable but you become stronger every time you're killed.

Updated March 16, 2018: Everspace received an Xbox One X update today. We tested out both modes and not only does the game look clear, but it also performs better than before even at 30 FPS.
