What you need to know

  • AMD laptops with Ryzen 4000 series chips appeared on several retail sites recently.
  • One listing shows a release date of March 16, 2020.
  • Ryzen 4000 series chips recently appeared in Geekbench test scores.

Retail listings for laptops powered by AMD's Ryzen 4000 series chips recently appeared on several sites. Amazon China shows listings for the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 GA401II, ROG Zephyrus G14 GA401IU, and TUF FA706IU (via Tom's Hardware). Tom's Hardware also reports that Newegg Canada showed a listing for an AMD Ryzen 4000 series laptop, but that listing appears to be down now.

The ROG Zephyrus G14 GA401II 14 and ROG Zephyrus G14 GA401IU 14's listings state that they run on the Ryzen 7 4800HS. The TUF FA706IU runs on the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H, according to its listing.

The Ryzen 4800H has eight cores and 16 threads. It has a base clock speed of 2.9 GHz and a max boost clock of up to 4.2 GHz. It has seven GPU cores to save power when a system isn't using its graphics card. It also has a TOP of 45W.

AMD hasn't revealed any details about the Ryzen 7 4800HS that the Zephyrus laptops list. Tom's Hardware suspects that the Ryzen 7 4800HS is a more power-efficient chip than the 4800H.

AMD first announced its Ryzen 4000 series of chips at CES 2020. At the time, it was stated that the first Ryzen 4000 series laptops would be released in Q1 2020, so a March 16 release date would line up well.
