Gears 5, the next entry in the long-running Microsoft Studios franchise, is gearing up for its launch on September 10, but you can already get an early look at the story behind one of the game's modes. "Escape" is a new mode for the series, and it follows three new protagonists on their journey to decimate a Swarm hive. Ahead of launch, the Gears 5 developers are offering a look at the story driving the protagonists with a comic miniseries dubbed "Hivebusters."

From the creators of Gears of War and Kurtis Wiebe, the writer of the hit Rise of RAAM miniseries, comes a pulse-pounding new mission with a whole new squad—Team Scorpio! After successfully busting a Swarm hive on the remote island of Pahanu, this suicide squad will face their most dangerous mission yet—going after the Swarm that decimated the home settlement of one of their own!

The first issue in the series is available now as a digital download for $2. Further entries in the series are also up for preorder, with five issues in total. The run is set to end on July 31, when the final issue will be available.
