Roguelike shooter 'Genesis: Alpha One' lets players explore the galaxy

Today, publisher Team17 and developer Radiation Blue released a new trailer for Genesis: Alpha One. Genesis: Alpha One is a roguelike first-person shooter coupled with a base-building and survival game. The game took everyone by surprise when it was announced a few months ago due to its visuals and complex gameplay mechanics. The title should launch on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4 in 2018.

The new trailer reveals the ability to land on a wide variety of planets within the galaxy. Landing allows you to mine resources and find artifacts, weapons, blueprints, and transmissions. This is crucial if you want to make your character stronger and base more secure.

According to the developer, setting foot upon the dusty surface of an unexplored planet triggers your crew of clones to begin mining the planet for vital resources such as iron, iridium and aluminum. You'll need to keep a watchful eye for any hostile alien lifeforms that inhabit the planet though. Defeating any threats will not only keep your crew safe, but will also enable you to collect biomass which can be used to create new kinds of clones for your missions.

Aside from creating clones, another important aspect of Genesis: Alpha One is the base-building mechanic. As seen in the trailer, you can make complex structures by combining different modules together. This is the first time we've seen a roguelike shooter with this amount of depth. Hopefully the game will be a polished experience when it launches this year.
