Survival horror 'Amnesia: Collection' leaps from PlayStation 4 to Xbox One soon [updated]

Updated August 27, 2018: The Amnesia: Collection isn't coming to Xbox One on August 31. A Frictional Games spokesperson responded to our inquiry by saying, "Unfortunately the news of the game releasing on August 31 was incorrect. But please stay tuned, as we will release more news on September 7. Hope you enjoy playing Amnesia: Collection when it becomes available!"

The Amnesia: Collection is a compilation of three first-person horror games which offer plenty of jump scares and moments where you question the protagonist's sanity. Beforehand, the titles were only available on PC or PlayStation 4, but it seems like that's about to change. While the Amnesia: Collection may feature dated visuals because the last entry launched in 2013, the gameplay still holds up years later.

Today, Xbox Wire released a list of games coming out next week, and Amnesia: Collection is among them. This is surprising because many gamers thought that they would never come to Xbox One. However, with acclaimed console exclusives like No Man's Sky going multiplatform, it seemed likely that other games would follow suit.

The Amnesia: Collection consists of Amnesia: The Dark Descent, the Amnesia: Justine expansion, and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. The Dark Descent follows a man named Daniel who wakes up without any memories in a ruined castle. He has purposely erased them and is being hunted by a "shadow". In order to escape, he has to kill the owner. The game is quite surreal because there are a lot of hallucinations and tricks involved. Due to the dimly-lit environments, you never know what's around the corner or where you should go.

Justine is an expansion for The Dark Descent. Again, a new character has no memories and has to escape a castle. However, this time around there are more puzzles to solve and an even more complex story. The ending has one of the biggest twists ever!

Lastly, A Machine for Pigs is the sequel to both experiences. It features a few stories and has a lot of references to the first game. You're most likely the grandson of the protagonist from The Dark Descent. The stakes are higher because you have to save the world from a darkness that festers beneath the surface. The mystery behind the entire series is revealed in A Machine for Pigs.

While critics haven't looked upon the sequel that favorably, gamers still love the series due to its dark and twisted nature. If you want to experience truly terrifying horror titles, then this is a must-have collection. According to Xbox Wire, Amnesia: Collection is coming to Xbox One on August 31, 2018. It doesn't appear to feature Xbox One X support at the moment.

As with any such leak, treat it with a grain of salt until we receive official confirmation. Xbox Wire usually reveals games coming to the system, but the dates are often when the listing will appear on the Xbox Store. We'll keep you posted as soon as we know more. We've reached out to Frictional Games for confirmation.
