The SteamVR preview is now available to try with Windows Mixed Reality. Previously available only to developers, the arrival of SteamVR on Microsoft's mixed reality platform is a pretty big deal in terms of opening users up to a breadth of new content.

Upon its launch in October, Windows Mixed Reality already had a decent stable of games and apps available through the Microsoft store, including the likes of Arizona Sunshine, Superhot VR, and Littlstar. While most of the Microsoft Store's selection can also be found on SteamVR, Valve's platform opens Windows Mixed Reality up to a whole wealth of content already available for VR platforms like Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Of course, not everything will be compatible right away, but this is the first step towards expanding content dramatically.

Windows Mixed Reality launched with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update in mid-October. The platform brings support for mixed reality and virtual reality experiences built directly into Windows 10 via compatible headsets from partners like Dell, Lenovo, and HP.

The Windows Mixed Reality SteamVR Preview is available now for free on Steam.
