Battlefield 1 goes free to play for Xbox Live Gold subscribers this weekend

Microsoft has been on a roll with its Xbox Live "Free Play Days" recently, and this weekend is no exception. From September 22 through September 24, Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be able to download and play Battlefield 1 for free, Microsoft has announced.

Battlefield 1 follows the happenings of the first World War, giving players perspectives from soldiers involved in different sides of the conflict. During the free play weekend, only the base game will be available to play, leaving out any DLC content. Still, that leaves the game's single-player War Stories and multiplayer open for play.

Lastly, Battlefield 1 Revolution, which packages the base game with the Premium Pass, will also be on sale at 40 percent off from September 19 through September 25 for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. For anyone who already owns the game, the Premium Pass will also be available at a 40 percent discount.

This free play weekend comes ahead of Battlefield 1's next big expansion, In the Name of the Tsar, which is set to land on September 19. Along with the expansion's heavy Russian theme, DICE will also be adding HDR to Battlefield 1 with a separate pass.
