How to friend another player in Fallout 76

Bethesda's taking a big risk by creating a Fallout game meant to act as a social multiplayer experience. As such, you may come across another player you happen to gel with really well when taking out Super Mutants or otherwise just exploring the wasteland. Here's how you can friend another player in Fallout 76.

How to friend another player in Fallout 76

To friend someone, follow these steps:

  1. Press the menu button on your controller.
  2. Press the Right Bumper for the social menu once the map pops up.
  3. Navigate to Recent.
  4. Select the person's gamertag.
  5. Select Add Friend.

Alternatively, you can also follow this process:

  1. Press the menu button on your controller to open up the map.
  2. Find the small dot denoting another player's location on the map.
  3. Select that player.
  4. Select Add Friend.

Is Fallout 76 better with friends?

Fallout is traditionally a single-player series, but Fallout 76 was designed as a multiplayer experience. While you can go it solo and play without a group, you'll still come across other players roaming your world. There are certain activities made for groups of people in mind, and it's definitely easier to cross West Virginia with other players watching your back.

While you're able to team up for a session and go your separate ways afterward, it's not a bad idea to friend them if you happen to enjoy their company. And if you don't already have a group of friends to jump into Fallout 76 with, or perhaps your other friends have it on a different platform, it would be nice to gain some new friends on your current platform. Your mileage may vary, but yes, there is something to be said about the enjoyment you can have with friends in Fallout 76.
