What you need to know

  • Bloober Team is working on a horror IP with a "very famous" publisher.
  • This news comes very recently after Silent Hill composer Akira Yamoaka stated his next project would be revealed later in 2021.
  • According to VGC, Konami has given the Silent Hill IP to a "prominent Japanese developer" for a new game to be revealed later this year.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Bloober Team, the developers of games like Layers of Fear and more recently The Medium, confirmed that the team is working with a "very famous gaming publisher" on an upcoming title.

"In fact, we've been working for more than a year on another gaming project, another horror IP, and we're doing this with a very famous gaming publisher," Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno says. "I can't tell you who. I can't tell you what the project is, but I'm pretty sure when people realize we're working on it, they will be very excited."

This comes just a short time after Silent Hill composer Akira Yamoaka stated in a now-removed interview that his next project was being revealed later in the summer of 2021 and that "I think it's kinda the one you're hoping to hear about."

Further compounding the mystery of everything, VGC reports that Konami has entrusted a new Silent Game to a "prominent Japanese developer" with the game currently scheduled to be revealed sometime over the summer.

Fortunately, with these different (or possibly one and the same?) reveals said to be announced later in the year, we won't have to wait too much longer to find out. Overall, The Medium has received a wide range of reviews, with our lead gaming editor Carli Velocci argued that while there are things for horror fans to enjoy in The Medium, it's not the game that Silent Hill fans need right now.
