Update: The G14 is no longer available to order at Amazon UK and showing no shipping dates elsewhere. ASUS tells us that the shipping date detailed below for folks who already pre-ordered shouldn't be affected and that this is likely due to the initial allocation being sold out.
When AMD announced the new Ryzen 4000 Mobile chips back at CES 2020, ASUS was the biggest initial hardware partner, announcing a number of new machines. The hero product is the Zephyrus G14, which will be one of the first to use the new Ryzen 9 4900HS, and it's now up for pre-order in Europe. Albeit, at least for now, without that Ryzen 9 version.
In the UK, three variants have gone up for initial pre-order with prices starting at a pretty reasonable £1,000. For that you're getting the Ryzen 5 4600HS, 8GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GTX 1650 and a 512GB PCIe SSD paired with the 1080p display.
Step it up to the Ryzen 7 and you've got a couple of choices. Both have the same Ryzen 7 4800HS at the heart and 16GB of RAM. The £1,400 model will pair those with a GTX 1660 Ti, 512GB PCIe SSD, and 120Hz 1080p display. The £1,600 model steps up the GPU to an RTX 2060, the storage to a 1TB PCIe SSD and the display to a 1440p panel.
All versions of the G14 are Wi-Fi 6 certified and charge over USB-C, while also promising up to 10 hours battery life, which is pretty phenomenal for a gaming laptop. Naturally, in the real world, we'd expect a few hours to be cut from this but even so, it's not too shabby at all.
Currently, shipping looks set for April 16, though given the current global situation anything could happen, but you're able to put your money down and reserve one now. The sweet spot is probably the £1,400 model since you're getting a solid GPU and fast display while still getting all the performance benefits of the new 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen 7.
