Assassin's Creed Origins gets its first story expansion this month

While previous content has been limited to combat events and various costume packs, this month marks the launch of The Hidden Ones. The Hidden Ones is Assassin's Creed Origins' first story expansion which focuses on the Roman occupation. Bayek and his Assassins will clash with the force in an all-new region of the game. The base game deals with topics like preserving the Ancient Egyptian way of life in a changing world, so expect The Hidden Ones to touch upon similar themes.

Ubisoft said that the expansion is a "vast story" but didn't provide any indication of its actual length in terms of hours. Additionally, the level cap has been increased from 40 to 45. The Hidden Ones will be available at no additional cost to Season Pass owners. We don't know much about this expansion apart from that, nor do we have a concrete release date. What we do know is that it'll launch sometime this month. Some of the other major changes coming to Assassin's Creed Origins in January are listed below.

  • A new quest to celebrate the arrival of the first story expansion.
  • Update to the loot chests item pool, which adds all the items from the Nightmare and First Civilization packs, as well as the Gladiator and Wacky packs.
  • A new option to sell outfits at weaver shops.

Some of the other additions to Assassin's Creed Origins in January include the return of Trial of the Gods and new costume packs. Trial of the Gods is a combat challenge where you fight powerful Egyptian deities. Between January 9 and January 16, you'll be able to fight Anubis once again. Once that's over, players will be able to take on the devious Sobek from January 23 to January 30. It would've been great if the developer introduced new Egyptian gods instead of recycling old ones.

The new skins coming to the game feature the Warden's Oath Outfit, the Almighty Pack, and the For Honor Pack. The For Honor Pack draws inspiration from Ubisoft's combat-based game to deliver some rather flashy gear. Hopefully Ubisoft will continue supporting the game like this for many months to come. The title is a fresh start for the series in many ways because it adds proper role-playing mechanics to the franchise.

Assassin's Creed Origins takes place in Ancient Egypt, a land of majesty and intrigue, but one that is disappearing in a ruthless fight for power. You play as a Bayek, the first Assassin, who must unveil dark secrets and forgotten myths as you go back to the one founding moment: the origins of the Assassin's Brotherhood.

Assassin's Creed Origins launched on October 27, 2017 on Xbox One, Windows PC and PlayStation 4. Be sure to check it out at retailers if you like third-person adventures. The game supports 4K resolution on Xbox One X and looks incredible.
