Monster Hunter: World 'Iceborne' expansion launches in September

Updated May 10, 2019: Monster Hunter: World — Iceborne is a paid expansion. According to the team, "This isn't just your average expansion. In fact, we can tell you that the volume of gameplay content in Iceborne will rival that of Monster Hunter: World, with even more quests to face this time around!"

A few months ago, Capcom announced that Monster Hunter: World was getting an ice-themed expansion called "Iceborne." While there were rumors floating around that it would launch in early 2019, it seems that that isn't the case because we finally got release date at Sony's State of Play event.

In a surprise announcement, the publisher said that Monster Hunter: World — Iceborne was coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on September 6. Unfortunately, PC players have to wait until the holiday season to enjoy this new content. Additionally, at launch, Capcom added that all future Monster Hunter: World content would be free, but Iceborne might be a paid expansion. It's unclear if this is the case or how much it will cost.

The premise behind Monster Hunter: World might be simple, but it tells a rather complex story. Once every decade, monsters known Elder Dragons trek across the water to travel to the region known as the New World. This migration event is referred to as the Elder Crossing. To get to the bottom of this mysterious pattern, the Guild has formed the Research Commission, dispatching them in large groups to the New World.

If you're interested in playing the game, you'll be happy to know that it's available through Xbox Game Pass. Xbox Game Pass is a monthly subscription service which gives you access to over a hundred games for a set fee.
