Dell's new UltraSharp 49 is a massive curved ultrawide monitor built for multitasking

If you're in the market for a massive ultrawide monitor built for heavy multitaskers, Dell has your back. The PC maker today revealed the UltraSharp 49, a massive 49-inch monitor that Dell claims is the "world's first 49-inch curved dual QHD monitor."

Built with a 32:9 aspect ratio, the monitor sports a 5120x1440 resolution, which is equivalent to slapping two 27-inch QHD monitors side by side. To use all of that space, the UltraSharp 49 supports running two input sources on one screen with Picture-by-Picture (PBP). You can effectively use PBP to display visuals from two PCs on one screen, eliminating the middle bezels that would typically break up a dual-screen setup in the middle. Further, the monitor supports using one keyboard and mouse across both PCs.

Dell's Display Manager software can help to arrange your apps for the most effective setup as well. The software can be used to tile and view apps side by side, and an auto-restore feature will reposition apps to their positions after you've disconnected from the monitor.

As is becoming increasingly common with new monitors, the UltraSharp 49 lets you run power, data, and video over a single USB-C cable. There are also two HDMI 2.0 ports on board, one DisplayPort 1.4 port, five USB 3.0 downstream ports and two USB 3.0 upstream ports.

As for display specs, the IPS panel sports a 1000:1 contrast ratio, a 60Hz refresh rate, and 99 percent sRGB color gamut coverage.

All of this comes at a cost, of course. The Dell UltraSharp 49 (U4919DW) is expected to launch on October 26 at a starting price of $1,700.
