JRPG 'Fernz Gate' joins Xbox Play Anywhere

Unlike the original Xbox or the Xbox 360, Japanese role-playing games (JRPG) are a rare sight on Xbox One. So, whenever one releases on the platform, many gamers are interested in what the experience offers.

Fernz Gate is a JRPG which launched on the console a few weeks ago. While it seems similar to games like Romancing SaGa 2, it's technical aspirations help it stand out. Fernz Gates features Xbox Play Anywhere support, meaning that you have to buy the game once, and can play it on Xbox One or Windows 10. All of your saved progress carries over too, meaning that you can pick up and play on any device.

According to developer Kemco, players "travel to the other side and beyond and find a way back home." After waking up in the woods, Alex, an ordinary highschooler, learns he has somehow ended up in the mysterious "Fernland". Your goal is to fight monsters, destroy an "Overlord", and find a way back to your realm. Other characters accompany you on your adventure too.

Taking inspiration of JRPG experiences of old, Fernz Gate features pixelated visuals and turn-based combat. It's quite a lot of fun, so if you're in the market for a somewhat casual experience between those heavy-hitters like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, then be sure to give this one a go. Fernz Gate currently costs $14.99 on the Xbox Store.
