What you need to know

  • The Windows Holographic version 21H1 update has arrived for HoloLens 2.
  • It adds features that make the HoloLens experience more customizable and intuitive.
  • It's available right now.

The whole point of HoloLens 2 is to keep customers on the cutting edge of tech, and Microsoft's reaffirming that with its latest update for Windows 10 Holographic, version 21H1.

Version 21H1 contains many useful updates, such as bringing the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge to HoloLens. It's now the default browser, a decision Microsoft says is designed to offer "better compatibility for customers and less fragmentation for web developers."

The Settings app has also received an update, allowing users to tinker with more settings than before. There's a display color calibration tool that you can now choose color profiles for your display from. You can reset default apps via the default app picker. There's lots more new stuff you can do.

There's also a new Power menu that'll allow you to shut down, sign out, or restart your HoloLens by tapping your user profile icon. And multiple user accounts will now display on the sign-in screen, in case you have more than one person regularly using the HoloLens.

There's a lot more to the 21H1 update, especially on the IT side, so be sure to check the whole version 21H1 update blog on Microsoft's site.

To get the update, Microsoft says to follow these steps: "To get the 21H1 build now, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update Select > Check for updates." Meanwhile, IT Admins should use Windows Update for Business and MDM policy to get their HoloLens up to date. From there, you should be all set to enjoy 21H1.
