HP debuts refreshed Omen 15 gaming laptop and Omen Obelisk at CES 2019

HP's massive new gaming display is likely to be the highlight of CES 2019 for gamers, but the company is also debuting some big refreshes to other entries in its Omen lineup. And whether you game at home or on the go, there's something to like for everyone here.

First up is the Omen 15 laptop, which is getting a big spec boost with Intel's 8th Gen Core i7-8750H processor. HP is mum (for now) on what graphics are powering the laptop, but it points to "NVIDIA's latest mobile graphics cards," which could hint at a mobile version of the firm's RTX cards. We'll have to wait and see what kind of announcements NVIDIA has in store to be sure.

As for other specs, the new Omen 15 supports up to 16GB of RAM, along with a storage combination of a 128GB SSD and a 1TB 7200 RPM SATA hard drive. The 15.6-inch display comes in at a 1080p resolution running at 144Hz, but HP is promising a 240Hz panel will be available later in the year as well.

External ports include one USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C with Thunderbolt, three USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports (two for data transfer, one for HP sleep and Charge), one Mini DisplayPort, one HDMI 2.0, and one Ethernet port.

The refreshed Omen 15 laptop is expected to launch in February at a starting price of $1,370. The optional 240Hz Omen 15 display is expected to launch in July.

For gaming at home, the Omen Obelisk is getting some beefy upgrades as well. Those include up to an Intel Core i9-9900K processor, up to 16GB of RAM, and a combination of storage drives that includes 512GB of SSD space and a 1TB 7200RPM SATA hard drive.

As for graphics, you'll be able to choose between an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 or RTX 2080Ti cards.

The system is liquid-cooled and comes in a sleek black chassis with a transparent side panel with Omen's standard red glow. In all, you'll find eight USB ports total, divvied up between six USB 3.1 Gen 1, one USB 3.1 Gen 2, and one USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C. There's also one HDMI port, along with three DisplayPorts.

The refreshed Omen Obelisk desktop is expected to launch in March at a starting price of $2,250.
