What you need to know

  • World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is the latest expansion for the popular multiplayer game.
  • In Brazil, the expansion was rated for Xbox Series X.
  • This could be a confirmation of a port.
  • Developer Blizzard Entertainment claims this is an error.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is the latest expansion for the popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) from Blizzard Entertainment. Despite some missteps with a few past expansions, the title has been going strong since it launched in 2004. It's only been available on PC for over a decade, but that may change if a recent rating by the Brazil classification agency is to be believed.

Today, many Twitter users, including outlet Gematsu, noticed that World of Warcraft: Shadowlands had been rated for Xbox Series X in Brazil. The Brazil agency is known for leaking a lot of announcements early, so there may be some merit to this.

Recently, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands got Xbox Adaptive Controller support. To learn more about the expansion, be sure to check out our overview of the game.

We reached out to the developer and got the following response. When asked whether the MMORPG was coming to Xbox Series X, the team said the following.

We currently have no plans to bring World of Warcraft or World of Warcraft: Shadowlands to Xbox Series X. The platform was listed on the Brazil Ministry of Justice rating website in error, and the entry has since been updated to reflect that the game is coming only to PC.

We followed up by asking if Blizzard would consider bringing World of Warcraft to Xbox One Series X or other consoles in the future? The team simply said that they didn't "any plans for other platforms to announce at this time." Hopefully, that'll change in the future, but that's the company's stance at the moment. It's unclear how an "error" such as this can even happen given the fact that you have to enter "Xbox Series X" in government forms a couple of times and have to verify your submission.
