Anyone who is a fan of the Halo universe has likely already given Halo 5: Guardians a shot. But just in case you haven't, Microsoft is making it free to play this weekend for Xbox Live Gold members. From January 11 through January 14, subscribers will be able to jump into the shoes of Master Chief, Spartan Locke, and the multiplayer arena for free.

Throughout the free play weekend, you can hop across worlds in the story campaign, either solo or co-op with friends. All of the game's multiplayer modes are available to check out as well, including 4v4 Arena, Slayer and Capture the Flag, as well as Infection, Super Fiesta, and Warzone.

Lastly, like other recent free play weekends, Microsoft will be offering a discount on the game. For the duration of the weekend, you can pick up Halo 5: Guardians at a 20 percent discount, dropping its price down to $15.99. As you might expect, all of your earned achievements and saved progress will carry over to the game if you decide to pick it up.

If you're an Xbox Live Gold member, you can get started by searching for Halo 5: Guardians and downloading it from the Xbox dashboard.
