The Division 2's skills allow you to equip drones and turrets

One of Ubisoft's most-anticipated new titles is The Division 2, the sequel to the popular first game that launched back in 2016. The Division 2 is a third-person military shooter which tasks you with stopping malicious forces from seizing control of the government in the District of Columbia.

Today, Ubisoft detailed some of the weapons and tools at the disposal of "Agents." This month, the publisher is are covering five different skill categories like the "Chem Launcher," "Drone," "Hive," "Seeker Mine," and "Turret." Each category comes with several variants drastically alter gameplay. In The Division 2, skills are specialized abilities. They provide advantages in combat that directly affect the outcome of your battles.

Chem Launcher

The Chem Launcher fires various chemicals that disperse into a cloud upon impact and linger there.

  • Firestarter: The canister sends out flammable gas. These gas clouds can be ignited with bullets from you or the enemy. This ability can be chained together if you have multiple canisters.
  • Riot Foam: This skill fires a canister with riot control foam that disperses on impact. Anyone affected by the foam is stuck in place for some time until it hardens and destroyed.
  • Oxidizer: This fires a canister that emits a cloud of corrosive chemicals. The cloud lingers rots enemy armor mechanical items.
  • Reinforcer: This fires a projectile that detonates and disperses an armor-repairing cloud. If this powder hits you or your teammates, it restores an amount of your armor. Powder that sticks on the ground grants armor restoration over time.

Drone

Drones hover around your shoulder and can attack enemies if you want.

  • Striker: This is an offensive version drone. It possesses a turret that inflicts continuous damage on a target.
  • Defender: This drone deflects incoming bullets. Each deflected bullet greatly drains the battery though.
  • Tactician: This drone soars in the skies and can spot all hostiles.
  • Bombardier: This drone drops a barrage of explosives on enemies.
  • Fixer: This defensive drone repairs armor.

Hive

This is a group of advanced micro-drones that deliver special effects.

  • Stinger: These micro-drones swarm hostiles and deal damage.
  • Restorer: This deploys micro-repair drones towards the agent, healing their armor.
  • Booster: This drone injects stimulants into Agents to boost combat efficiency.
  • Reviver: As the name suggests, this can revive allies within a particular radius.

Seeker Mine

These mines can target hostiles can take them out with great precision.

  • Explosive: This mine chases the target and detonates with a staggering explosion.
  • Airburst: This mine rolls to an area and launches an explosive burst into the air.
  • Mender: This mine releases repair chemicals so that you can fix your armor.
  • Cluster: This contains a series of smaller charges in one package. Just like a cluster missile, it hits targets with a barrage of smaller explosions.

Turret

Turrets are returning from the first game. They largely function the same way.

  • Assault: This is a machine gun turret which can rotate all the way.
  • Incinerator: This turret fires flames in a cone that can decimate large groups of enemies.
  • Artillery: This is pretty clear as well. It launches exploding shells at locations of your choice.
  • Sniper: This is an automatic sniper of sorts.

It's great to see this level of customization. Hopefully the shooting mechanics will be quite complex this time around. Above all else, Ubisoft needs to limit the grind and sense of stagnation that prevailed in the first game.

The Division 2 is expected to launch on March 15, 2019. However, if you preorder Ultimate Edition or Gold Edition, you can play it on March 12.
