What you need to know

  • A Halo fan has discovered a hidden audio file within the latest Halo Infinite development update article.
  • The file is a 46-second long conversation mostly between Dr. Halsey and Master Chief.
  • Dr. Halsey hints that the AI allying with Cortana may not necessarily be opposed to Chief, suggesting that he could perhaps sway them from Cortana's side.

Mere minutes after 343 Industries released a new update on Halo Infinite's development, a Halo fan on Twitter by the name of @ZachRRobertson discovered a hidden audio file embedded in the blog post. You can listen to the file yourself here.

The first half of the audio log features Dr. Halsey speaking with an unknown individual (most likely a UNSC officer) about Cortana's takeover of the galaxy following the events of Halo 5: Guardians. Master Chief can then be heard entering the scene, and he speaks with Dr. Halsey about the plan moving forward. When Chief asks Halsey about the AI that are allying with Cortana's cause, Halsey notes that while these AI are opposing the UNSC, they might not necessarily be hostile towards Chief himself. This implies the possibility that Master Chief might be able to turn some of Cortana's allies away from her side in a way that the wider UNSC wouldn't be able to do. This could ultimately lead to her downfall, which we may see over the course of Halo Infinite or learn about throughout the campaign.

Ultimately, only time will tell what really happens to Cortana and her Created faction, but this audio file has given fans a lot to think about.

Halo Infinite is expected to launch in Fall 2021 on the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One consoles, and Windows 10 PCs. The game's price is expected to be $60, though the multiplayer will be free to play. It will also run at 120 FPS on Xbox Series X and Series S, which is exciting. Also, we highly recommend checking out the Master Chief Collection while you wait for Halo Infinite, as it bundles all of the pre-Xbox One Halo shooters together for an excellent price. This easily makes it one of the best Xbox One shooters on the market, and it recently got even better with the arrival of Season 5 of the MCC that added tons of new cosmetics to Halo 3 and Halo: Reach.
