What you need to know

  • The next Dragon Age game is currently being developed by BioWare.
  • According to VentureBeat, this game will be exclusive to current-generation consoles and PC.
  • This means there won't be any Xbox One or PS4 versions available.

The next Dragon Age game is still a ways off but a new report indicates what platforms players will be enjoying it on. According to VentureBeat, the next Dragon Age is set to launch on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC and PS5, with no planned Xbox One or PS4 versions.

BioWare's history likely plays a roll in this decision, as former executive producer Mark Darrah openly stated on Twitter that Dragon Age: Inquisition should've been developed only for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, admitting that the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game held back the overall design.

Another upcoming Electronic Arts title, the Dead Space remake in development at Motive Studios, is also current-generation exclusive, indicating that more and more games from the EA Worldwide Studios family will only be available on the latest gaming machines.

BioWare is also currently working on the next Mass Effect game, though this title is almost certainly even farther out. A remaster compilation of the first three Mass Effect games titled Mass Effect: Definitive Edition launched earlier in 2021, with publisher Electronic Arts noting that sales were "above expecations."

The next Dragon Age game is also reportedly a single-player adventure, dropping multiplayer elements that were at one point planned. The game also seems to be set in the Tevinter Imperium and possibly Antiva.

If you haven't played the prior Dragon Age games, they're all included in EA Play, a subscription service that is also bundled into Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. BioWare hasn't remastered the Dragon Age games yet, but we'll see what happens in the future.
