Unboxing Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition (video)

Microsoft launched the Xbox One X to what appears as generally positive reception across the board, backed by a strong launch week in key markets. The premium console promises 4K resolutions, HDR, and other visual upgrades, and with hardware significantly superior to competitors, is frequently serving the best experiences for triple-A releases.

Marking the debut of Microsoft's new console, early adopters can secure a "Project Scorpio" variant of the console – a limited edition version for the launch period. Sporting a unique design that pays homage to the device's codename, the device is intended for the most dedicated fans, with various throwbacks to Xbox history. We recently managed to get hands-on with the device following its launch, looking at exactly what the package offers.

As for the hardware under the hood – the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition is unchanged from the standard version of the console. Driving the console are eight CPU cores clocked at 2.3GHz, 12GB of GDDR5 RAM and six teraflop GPU. This gives existing Xbox One games a fair amount of overhead while allowing specific "Xbox One X Enhanced" games to achieve improved visuals. All Project Scorpio edition units additionally ship alongside a vertical stand, allowing the console to safely sit upright, despite its offset form factor.

Although the device launched back on November 7, a limited number of Project Scorpio versions are available through select retailers. If you like the look of the console, you may still be able to snag one in your region, if you're lucky.
