Updated, June 18 (5 PM ET) 2K Games has reenabled Mafia III Xbox One X enhancements. The status of the PS4 Pro is unclear at this time.

What you need to know

  • Mafia III is the latest entry in the popular franchise.
  • It recently was upgraded to the Definitive Edition for existing owners.
  • It seems like Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro enhancements were removed with the patch.
  • It's unclear when this will be fixed.

A few days ago, 2K Games released the Mafia: Trilogy for Xbox One and other platforms. The package includes Mafia II: Definitive Edition, Mafia III: Definitive Edition, and Mafia: Definitive Edition. Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition are already available, with Mafia: Definitive Edition expected in August.

2K Games said that all three games were 4K on Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro (PS4 Pro) — Mafia II: Definitive Edition runs at 1800p on Xbox One X and 1440p on PS4 Pro — but it turns out Mafia III: Definitive Edition may have gotten a significant downgrade with the latest patch.

Many users are discussing the fact that the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro versions don't run at a higher resolution anymore on Reddit and Twitter. Textures are blurry and it seems like the developer and publisher are unaware of this issue. The official Twitter account is asking individuals affected to submit a support ticket.

We were able to verify this by playing Mafia III on an Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. The game looks incredibly blurry and isn't at 1800p like it was before on both systems. We've reached out to 2K Games for comment and shall update you as soon as we receive a response.

Update, June 18 (5 PM ET) — Mafia III is Xbox One X Enhanced again

I just noticed that there was a new update for Mafia III on Xbox One X. The game is now Xbox One X Enhanced again and looks sharper than ever. It seems like the lighting, rain effects, and reflections have received a massive boost, too.
