AMD fans won't have to wait long to get their hands on the company's next Threadripper processor. The chip maker announced today that the 3rd Generation Threadripper will arrive in November.
Other than confirmation that its high-end Threadripper chip will arrive soon, AMD was light on details. In a Twitter post teasing its November release, AMD confirmed the chip will arrive with 24 cores, but no other specs were revealed.
Alongside the Threadripper news, AMD also revealed it is delaying the launch of the Ryzen 3950X. The chip, which would sit at the top of the current Ryzen lineup, was initially set to launch in September. Citing issues with demand, AMD stated in a separate post:
We are focusing on meeting the strong demand for our 3rd generation AMD Ryzen processors in the market and now plan to launch both the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X and initial members of the 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper processor family in volume this November.We are confident that when enthusiast get their hands on the world's first 16-core mainstream desktop processor and our next-generation of high-end desktop processors, the wait will be well worth it.
The currently available lineup of 3rd Gen Ryzen CPUs ranges up to the Ryzen 9 3900X with plenty of variance in performance between it and AMD's base chips. Adding the 3950X and a new Threadripper chip to the lineup will be a boon for hardcore enthusiasts, but we'll have to wait until November to see just how much power AMD was able to pack into the top end.

When only the best will do
It's not quite Threadripper levels of amazing, though it does match the older entry-level Threadripper processor, but the Ryzen 9 3900X is a special case. It houses 12 cores and 24 threads inside a package that can be installed on an AM4 motherboard. Wait ... what?
